Double masking won't end the pandemic, but it wouldn't hurt to layer your protection.

In a seemingly déjà vu moment from March of last year, areas under the NCR Plus bubble, comprised of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, are once again under enhanced community quarantine. The ECQ, implemented in the hope of curbing the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases, will last for a week, beginning March 29 until April 4.

In compliance with the imposed regulations for the ECQ period, Ayala Malls has provided its customers a comprehensive list of stores, clinics, supermarkets, and other services that will be open per Ayala Malls location.

While staying at home is still the best option to lessen the further spread of the virus, those who need to brave the outside to run errands and go to work may want to look into the double masking method.

The United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends this simple combination for double masking: layer a cloth mask on top of your surgical mask.

The act of double masking improves the fit of your mask to your face, leaving it more secure, and giving it better filtration from respiratory droplets that may contain the COVID-19 virus.

Here are some of the tips that you can do to ensure that you are doing double masking right:

1.  Before leaving the safety of your home, you can check whether the fit of your double mask is snug by cupping your hands over your mask. Breathe in and out and feel if there is any air escaping from around the edges of your mask.

2. It is also highly recommended to have filters inside the pockets of your cloth mask, for an extra layer of protection.

3.  To hold your surgical masks firmly in place, you may also opt to do the knot and tuck method, which is simply knotting or tying the ear loops to where they join to your mask and tuck away unwanted material underneath.

4. Be sure that your masks do not block your line of sight so that it won’t cause any
discomfort on your end.

While this is just one way of ensuring that you and the people around you are protected, do not forget to do other equally important steps, such as washing your hands, practicing social distancing, and avoiding crowded areas.

Stay safe, everyone.
