If there’s one thing the past year has taught us — apart from how important our votes are going to be in 2022 — it’s that it doesn’t have to be Christmas for it to be the season of giving. For more than half a century now, Caritas Manila has been tirelessly putting that into action, uplifting those in need through their various charitable programs.

Last month, Caritas Manila partnered with Ayala Malls to build its reach by opening its newest Segunda Mana branch at Ayala Malls Marikina.

Segunda Mana is Caritas Manila’s social enterprise that collects in-kind donations and converts them into cash to sustain its philanthropic work. Caritas Manila is the social arm of the Archdiocese of Manila.

At the Segunda Mana store in Ayala Malls Marikina, like their other branches around the metro and nearby provinces, donated goods are sold to not only promote reducing waste, reusing, and recycling, but also to help send over 5,000 scholars to college and support over 300 micro entrepreneurs.

Segunda Mana believes in the principle of stewardship as a way of life, encouraging the public to pass on the things they no longer use. They accept the following: old items that can still be used, used items that still have value, and of course, new items. If you own a business, you can also donate old stocks and non-moving inventory.

And while most of us are still largely confined to our homes, it’s as good a time as any to do some spring cleaning — you might just find some gems that deserve a second life.

Segunda Mana is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Ayala Malls Marikina. You may drop-off donations or have them scheduled for pick-up by calling 8562-0020 to 25, 8563-9311, 8564-0205 or emailing

For more information, visit their website and the Segunda Mana and Caritas Manila pages on Facebook.
