This holiday bazaar reminds us that this year, gift giving is a lot more meaningful.

BY ELLA RIVERA

One of the greatest things to come out of the holiday season is the customary Christmas bazaar. A good Christmas bazaar has a treasure hunt feel, full of hidden gems and purposeful trinkets that you can proudly add to your gift list.

Since this year’s traditions have been halted by the ongoing pandemic, you can still be extra careful, and thoughtful, while doing your holiday shopping. In the true spirit of Christmas, one bazaar pushed through and gave an option for buyers to do their shopping online, while still showcasing local brands and enterprises that champion different causes.

Inside this year's Designer's Holiday Bazaar at Greenbelt 5, proudly local products are displayed against a jolly multi-hued setting.

Designer’s Holiday Bazaar is an annual bazaar curated by Bea Zobel Jr. and Sofia Elizalde to support local brands while raising funds for APEC Schools and STEPS foundation scholars, a non-profit which supports Filipino children’s education. The bazaar features various items from crafted goods, designer apparel, to local coffee and gourmet food.

If you opt to check out the products in real life, the bazaar is set outdoors and is available for viewing from November 18 to December 24 at Fashion Walk, Greenbelt 5.

In the meantime, here are some product picks that you might want to consider for your Christmas gift list:

Tanglaw

Tanglaw Herbal Infused VCO Soap in Rest, part of its Pamper Gift Sets (starts at P1,395)

Tanglaw produces items for the love of self-care and personal rituals — their candles, body oils, and air freshener are made from all-natural ingredients to give a sense of stillness and peace to one’s home. Tanglaw also works with rural farmers and women from vulnerable communities, as they aim to provide livelihood through local craftsmanship.

BEAVALDES’ Modern Heirlooms

BEAVALDES stone earrings, P24,304

If you’re looking for a timeless piece, BEAVALDES offers unique keepsakes and modern heirlooms made by Filipino artisans with a vision to bring Filipino craftsmanship to a global audience. Not boxed in by trends, their items make a good gift idea for women all of ages.

Maison Lourdes

Maison Lourdes Charlotte Carry-on Tote, P6,200

It's always a treat to see native designs seamlessly incorporated into trendy fashion silhouettes, and Maison Lourdes does such a great job in this modern-style mishmash. Take this elegant take on a weekend tote: a simple strip of locally-woven fabric making a world of difference in an otherwise generic piece, making the case for fashionable washable bags, an essential in this COVID era.

Tnalak Home

Tnalak Home Christmas Tree Anemone, P4,000

With its home base situated in Abreeza Mall in Davao, Tnalak Home is a beloved part of the Ayala Malls family, providing gorgeous native and tropical-style homewares and decor. Case in point, the most vibrant take on a traditional Christmas tree, as pictured above. With the world celebrating Christmas differently this year, there's all the more reason to try a unique take on the classic holiday tree.
